Hybrid work feels a bit like a relationship.

Tuesday 07th October 2025

Hybrid working is a bit like being in a relationship. It takes communication, trust, and effort. Without those, things can drift. With them, things stay connected.

Communication Matters

Most of my WFH days run through Slack and Teams. That means being clear, asking questions, and not overthinking whether something is “worth” raising. Just ask. It sounds simple, but it keeps everything moving and avoids small issues from snowballing.

Collaboration Looks Different

In a hybrid world, collaboration happens everywhere. Figma has become our shared canvas, a space where ideas grow together. It’s where sketches turn into concepts, and comments turn into improvements. There’s something nice about seeing everyone’s fingerprints on a project, even when we’re not sitting side by side.

Culture Finds a Way

Culture isn’t tied to a place, it’s tied to people making the effort. For me, the best example is PYP (Pitch Your Passion). Every Friday, someone gets 20 minutes to share what excites them outside of work, whether that’s football, furniture, or Star Wars. It’s simple, fun, and makes the team feel closer, wherever we’re sitting.

Closer Than It Looks

Hybrid working doesn’t mean less connection when you’re not in the office. It just means the connection looks different. Emojis replace nods, Figma replaces whiteboards, and PYP sometimes replaces pub drinks. Like any good relationship, it works because people put the effort in. And when they do, the distance doesn’t feel very distant at all.

Hybrid work isn’t about where you are. It’s about communication, collaboration, and the culture we choose to create together.
